Study Confirms Treating Prostate Cancer Preferable To Watchful Waiting
Jan-21-2007
Endocare, Inc. (ENDO) announced that a large study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association confirms that men with early prostate cancer should seriously consider all prostate cancer treatment options before choosing "watchful waiting" as a disease management approach. The study consisted of 44,630 men between the ages of 65 and 80 and found that those patients who chose to treat their prostate cancer were 30% less likely to die than those who waited. This suggests that all patients with localized disease regardless of age should consider definitive treatments rather than "watchful waiting." It is estimated that approximately 30,000 of the more than 225,000 men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer annually choose to...

Wilson from University of California, San Francisco, told Reuters Health.

During the study period, 712 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer. Men with only daughters had a 40 percent i...
